Mayflower Hotel Wedding

Located in Washington, DC, it is not surprising to find that the Mayflower Hotel has made its mark on history. Initially opened in 1925, it quickly became a popular area for socializing in the nation’s capital, hosting many balls and galas. Charles Lindbergh was awarded the Hubbard Medal here in 1927. Six years later, President Franklin Delano Roosevelt penned his iconic “the only thing we have to fear is fear itself” line in room 776. In 1943, the GI Bill was drafted in room 570. Throughout the Mayflower Hotel’s history, it has hosted many prominent guests at its events including President Dwight Eisenhower, Winston Churchill, King Mohammed V of Morocco, and President Ronald Reagan. Today, it remains one of DC’s top destinations for weddings, parties, and events.

Brief History of the Mayflower Hotel Wedding Venue

This extensive hotel features 581 guest rooms and suites. Each room features a melding of contemporary touches along with local flavor, providing a luxurious feel within a tradition-rich space. The hotel’s lobby features the Town & Country Lounge, rated as one of the world’s top bars by London’s Sunday Times. The Grand Ballroom is one of the hotel’s most adorned spaces. It features Ionic columns, mirrored French doors along the east wall, and bas-relief plastered décor. Meanwhile, the State & East Ballrooms are highlighted by beautiful white Vermont marble tile, Doric columns, and Adams style decorative moldings. A Mayflower Hotel wedding features many beautiful locations for photos within the halls of this building, allowing the merging of its rich history and architecture to create stunning backgrounds that can render beautiful images.

Noteworthy features

Selecting the Mayflower Hotel wedding venue provides numerous options for large and mid-sized gatherings with a handful of event rooms capable of hosting more intimate elopement events. Below are some of the most beautiful options for hosting a Mayflower wedding.

Grand Ballroom
With over 7,500 square feet of space, the Grand Ballroom provides guests with a multitude of options for their wedding reception. The Grand Ballroom is the largest space available for your Mayflower Hotel wedding. It is also one of the most opulent. You’ll be treated to iconic features, making you feel like you’ve been transported into a period of ageless luxury. This space can host 500 for a banquet or 800 for a reception. It can be paired with the adjoining Chinese Ballroom to accommodate up to 900 seated or 1,100 standing.

East & State Ballrooms
The hotel’s original Presidential Ballroom was partitioned during renovation to create the East and State Ballrooms. These can be reserved for your Mayflower wedding venue individually or combined. Today, a removable partition separates the two. While the rooms were renovated in structure, almost all of the original Adams-style décor remains including gilded crests of the original thirteen colonies. The East Ballroom holds 280 seated and 350 reception style while the State Ballroom holds 360 seated and 500 reception style. Combined, the spaces can host 610 and 850 respectively.

District Ballroom
A Mayflower wedding in the District Ballroom features over 4,000 square feet of space that hosts between 300 and 320 guests. Wainscoting, gorgeous chandeliers, and epic lighting make this an excellent place for a wedding and help provide a great setting for capturing candid moments throughout the evening.

Palm Court Ballroom
A smaller space for your Mayflower Hotel wedding, the Palm Court Ballroom can still hold up to 300 people for a reception-style event and 240 in a banquet setting. Here, you’ll find the same iconic features that are immersed in historical architecture that you have come to expect from the Mayflower Hotel with plenty of space for dancing and mingling. A highlight of this space is the beautiful, windowed ceiling.
